发展中国家国际关系硕士项目招生简章及申请表

一、项目简介
    外交学院是中华人民共和国外交部直属高等院校,也是中国从事国际关系教学与研究最早的机构之一。
    经中华人民共和国教育部批准,外交学院从2011年秋季学期起开办一年制国际关系硕士学位项目。该项目面向所有发展中国家,招收具有国际关系、外交学、政治学与世界历史等学科背景以及相关学术研究能力的学生。项目旨在为从事外交外事工作、高等教育与研究机构的人员提供专业培训。参与项目教学的人员主要来自外交学院的国际关系研究所、外交学系等教学部门的教师,也包括一些在中国进行访学的海外优秀专家学者。
    该项目的教学、论文写作及考试用语均为英语。拥有国际关系与外交学方面工作背景的学生将被优先录取。
二、项目目标及重点
    项目目标:(1)要求学生掌握当代国际关系及中国外交的相关知识;(2)对学生进行国际关系方法论及国际关系理论的系统培训;(3)提高学生分析和解决问题的能力。
    项目重点:运用多学科视角、理论与方法来培养学生,使其进一步理解国际关系的历史与现状。学生的理论训练将与课题调研、实习以及相关课外活动相结合。
    该项目的毕业生应具有本学科宽广的基础理论和系统的专业知识,具有一定的科学研究能力和初步的时政调研能力,将能在外交外事工作中发挥领导作用。
三、项目结构
(一)项目期限
    学生预计将在一年内完成该项目。时间安排如下:
    第一学期:2012年9月-2013年1月;
    寒假:2013年1月-2013年2月;
    第二学期:2013年2月-7月。
    项目要求学生在学年结束前完成全部的课程及毕业论文,并通过论文答辩。
(二)项目介绍
    国际关系硕士项目的教学语言为英语,课程将以研讨会、讲座、授课及讨论组等形式完成。该项目的学生可以同时选修外交学院的其他课程。
(三)主要课程
    该项目由两个学期的课程组成,获得学位的最低学分要求为30个学分。

        当代中国外交(3学分)
        比较政治研究(3学分)

        社会科学研究方法论(3学分)

(四)硕士论文
    作为论文准备工作的一部分,学生需要在第一学期中期考核前确定论文选题,选题必须与国际关系和外交政策相关。项目负责单位——国际关系研究所协助学生选择论文指导教师。学位论文应在导师指导下由研究生本人独立完成。学位论文应注意选择有学术价值和政策意义的课题,体现一定的创新性,并能充分反映学生独立的分析问题和解决问题的能力和理论水平。学生必须通过论文答辩。
(五)学位要求
    学生在规定时间内完成30个学分的全部学习任务,成绩合格,并完成硕士论文,通过学位论文答辩,经审查合格,准予毕业;经学校学位评定委员会审核批准后,授予硕士学位。
四、项目申请及录取条件
    申请要求:
    1.申请人需有国际政治、国际关系、外交学或国际政治经济学等相关领域的学士学位,或相当于同等学位的资格证明。有国际关系领域工作经验者优先。
    2.对于母语非英语的申请人,需取得托福95分或雅思6.5以上的成绩。
    3. 申请者需提交一份自我陈述,内容包括为什么选择国际关系研究?之前做过哪些相关学习或工作?今后工作设想等。
    4. 申请者需提交简历一份,主要包括教育背景,工作经历,个人兴趣,研究成果等。
    5. 2012学年我所计划招生10-15人。

Part I - Program Description
China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU) is the institution of higher learning which operates under the guidance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. It is one of the most distinguished universities in China offering international relations programs.
From 2011 fall semester, CFAU has been offering a one-year Master of International Relations Program, approved by the Ministry of Education, the People’s Republic of China. The program is open to students from developing countries with professional background of International Relations, Diplomacy, Politics and World History, and with the relevant ability of research. Preference is given to applicants with working experiences in International Relations and Diplomacy.
The target of the program is to provide professional training for personnel in Foreign Service, Higher Education and Research Institutes. The courses, thesis writing and exams are conducted in English. And the Chinese language (Mandarin) course will be offered as a compulsory one.
Most faculty members are renowned professors from CFAU colleges and departments. Our adjunct faculty includes the best academics and professionals from universities and research institutes abroad.
Part II - Program Features
International Relations
Objectives of the program are: (1) to build up the students’ knowledge of the contemporary International Relations and China’s foreign policy; (2) to provide systematic training in methods and theories of international relations; (3) to enhance the students’ analytical skills and abilities to deal with foreign policy issues.
Focus of the program will be on applying multidisciplinary perspectives, theories, and methodologies in order to further understand the history and current situation of International Relations. Students’ theoretical training will be combined with field work, policy study projects, internships, and related extra-curricular activities.
Graduates of the program will be distinguished by their mastery of International Relations theories and research methods, ability to conduct original policy analysis, and outstanding leadership skills in a variety of foreign affairs environments.
Part III –Program Structure
Length of study
Students are expected to complete the program in one year. Time table of the year:
The first semester:September, 2012-January, 2013.
Winter Holiday:January -February, 2013.
The second semester:February –July, 2013.
Students are required to finish the full time course-work, thesis writing and thesis defense by the end of the academic year.
Instruction
The International Relations program is taught in English. Courses are given through workshops, seminars, lectures, discussion groups, and team and individual projects. Students could also take some courses taught in other programs at CFAU.
Courses
The program consists of two semesters of courses, with a minimum course requirement of 30 credits to complete the degree.
1. Compulsory Courses (19 credits)

 Diplomacy of Contemporary China (3 credits)
 Comparative Political Analysis (3 credits)
 Chinese Language (4 credits)
2. Selective Courses (15 credits)
 Approaches and Methodologies in the Social Sciences (3 credits)
  China’s Economy and China’s Economic Relations with Foreign Countries(3 credits)
 Sino-US Relations and US Diplomacy (3 credits)
  Foreign Policy Analysis (3 credits)
 International Law (3 credits)
Master Thesis
Students should find their own research topics related to international relations and foreign policy, as a part of thesis research preparation. Towards the end of the first semester, faculty members who are experts in their specializations will be invited as potential thesis supervisors, and the Institute of International Relations of CFAU will help students choose their supervisors. The thesis is expected to combine theoretical perspectives, analytical skills and practical experiences of international relations and foreign policy, and aims at solving practical problems. Students must pass oral defense for the thesis.
Degree Requirements
Students are required to earn 30 credits and finish a master thesis and thesis defense within the required time period. After meeting the above requirements and obtaining the approval of University Degree Committee, they will be awarded a Master Degree of Law.
Part IV-Application and Admissions
Admission Requirements:

1.Applicants must have one bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the following areas: International Relations, Diplomacy, International Politics or International Political Economy. Previous work experience in International Relations preferred.
2.For applicants whose native language is not English, evidence of fluency in English must be demonstrated by a minimum of 95 in TOEFL ibt Test or 6.5 in IELTS Test.
3.Statement of Purpose. The statement of purpose should outline your interest in international studies and foreign policy analysis, why you have chosen CFAU, and what your previous experience and future career development plans are.
4.Curriculum Vitae. Your CV should include the following information: all employment held; academic degrees, achievements and honors; extracurricular activities and interests. The recommended length for a CV is not more than two pages.
5.We plan to enroll 10 to 15 students for the 2012 academic year.
